Mobilizing Urban Indigenous Knowledges Tours (Thursday, May 11 from 3:45 PM – 5:30 PM): 

Art Gallery of Ontario Walking Tour:  

Tour the J.S. McLean Centre for Indigenous art with Wanda Nanibush, Curator of Indigenous art at the Art Gallery of Ontario. This tour will also visit the solo exhibition of Radical Remembrance: The Sculptures of David Ruben Piqtoukin, as well as other gallery highlights.

OCAD University Walking Tour:  

The tour will highlight aspects of the visual culture that shines through culturally generated graphic patterns, bright colours, and inspiring stories. Take a walk and visit the large-scale outdoor mural by Jordan Bennett, this newly commissioned public artwork is rooted in Bennett’s relationships with Mi’kmaq porcupine quillwork, basketry and design.

Join First Story Toronto guides for a story walk of the Indigenous history and presence of University of Toronto’s St. George campus, highlighting histories of colonialism, buried rivers, and Indigenous activism and accomplishment on campus.

Toronto Metropolitan University (Toronto Met) Walking Tour: 

This tour shares stories about Indigenous peoples’ connections to land and culture by weaving a story around the land currently occupied by Toronto Metropolitan University. Tour participants will learn about a variety of landmarks on campus that share teachings and reflect the beauty of the many Indigenous cultures that reside here on Turtle Island.
